What is orthoK?
OrthoK is a safe non-surgical process. Special lenses gently reshape the front of your eye while you sleep. You remove the lenses on waking. The result is clear vision all day, without glasses or contact lenses. Many patients describe the procedure as magic. Given the many names orthoK is known by we figured “Magic Eyes” would be easier to remember.
Studies have also shown that orthoK may stop or slow down myopia (short-sightedness). The official name for preventing and slowing myopia is Myopia Control. For youngsters that need stronger glasses every visit, the chance to limit further worsening is an exciting option. Learn more about Myopia Control.
Amanda Rungis is one of the exceptionally few optometrists on the Central Coast to be qualified and experienced at fitting orthoK. She has been fitting children and adults with orthoK for nearly a decade. She is the Vice President of the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania (OSO) and a board member of the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (IAOMC).
